První díl série Splinter Cell. Tato hra byla průlomová hlavně v oblasti stealth akcí, grafiky, misí, ovládání a dalších. Hra světla a stínů je kapitola sama pro sebe.

Ujímáte se role Sama Fishera, člena tajné americké vládní organizace Third Echelon, která se snaží udržet mír za každou cenu. V té době "vystrkuje růžky" prezident Nikoladze Kombayn z Gruzie. Organizace se musí s nastálou situací vypořádat, a tak posílá jejich nejlepšího agenta Sama Fishera. Sam je vybaven tou nejmodernější technologií. Navštívíte Čínu, Gruzii, USA, Barmu a další. Ve hře je kladen důraz spíše na infiltrování bez zbytečného zabíjení. V některých misích je striktně zakázáno zabíjet. Musíte tedy procházet misemi neslyšně a samozřejmě nezpozorován. V tom vám pomůže vaše výbava a taky rozstřelování světel. Když vám nepomůže schovat se do stínu můžete nepřítele omráčit, ale pozor, těla musíte schovávat jinak spustíte poplach a to může znamenat konec mise.
